SHORT TERM

Short term project closures listed below typically take place during daylight hours. Project completion dates typically range from 1 to 30 days, weather permitting.

SHAWNEE COUNTY

US-24

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, US-24 over the Menoken Road Bridge will be reduced to one lane for emergency bridge repair work.  The bridge will be closed round the clock through late Friday, March 26, weather permitting. Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via automatic traffic control signals. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, March 26. (Rev. 3-11-10)

DOUGLAS COUNTY

US-59/Iowa Street

Northbound and southbound US-59/Iowa Street will be reduced to one lane each direction from Yale Road to the Irving Hill Overpass (approximately 1100 feet south of 15th Street) for milling and overlay/patch repairs on Thursday/Saturday, March 11-20 between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. daily. Project work is scheduled to be completed on Saturday, March 20. (New 3-10-10)

LONG TERM

Long term project closures listed below typically take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Project completion dates typically range from 31 days up to a year, weather permitting.

DOUGLAS COUNTY

US-40/US-59 (North 2nd Street)

Southbound and northbound North 2nd Street/US-40/US-59 will be restricted to traffic due to reconstruction work on the North 2nd Street/US-40/ US-59 and Locust Street intersection in the City of Lawrence. Southbound traffic reduced to one lane through the project work zone. Northbound traffic is detoured via Elm Street, North 3rd Street, and Lyon Street. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late March 2010. (Rev. 3-1-10)

US-59

In January 2009, construction began on the US-59 highway realignment project. The US-59 realignment project will occur in two phases in Douglas County. Phase I, which began in January 2009, includes grading (earthwork) and construction of bridges. Phase II includes the surfacing/pavement work for the new 11.1-mile stretch of US-59 roadway. Traffic impacts during Phase I will be minimal as construction is taking place adjacent to the road. Specific traffic impacts will be reported as needed. Project work is scheduled to be completed in late 2012. (New 7-6-09)

200N Road

Beginning at noon on Wednesday, July 29, 200N Road will close at US-59 for frontage road construction work. 200N Rd will be tied into a new frontage road that runs parallel to the new US-59 (see above). Project work is scheduled to be completed in late 2012. (New 7-28-09)

SHAWNEE COUNTY

I-70

On Friday, November 20, a gateway enhancement project will begin along the I-70 corridor in downtown Topeka.  The gateway enhancement project will include landscaping, signage and fence replacement work.  Landscaping will include limestone outcroppings and native plantings, and signage will include the installation of seven welcome signs at major highway entrances into Topeka.  Work will take place on I-70 between 4th Street and 10th Street and at key entrance points into the capital city.  There will be little to no traffic impacts as work will take place primarily off of mainline I-70. Project work is scheduled to be completed in summer 2010. (New 11-20-09)

I-70 & I-470

Beginning Tuesday, November 24, the pavement repair project on I-470 is on WINTER SHUTDOWN until early April 2010! On Monday, September 28, a concrete pavement repair project began on I-470 and I-70 in Topeka. Repair work will first begin on eastbound I-470 then move to westbound I-470. Repair work has been completed on eastbound I-470. The I-470 project portion extends for 2 miles from 21st Street east to Gage Boulevard. In spring 2010, repair work will take place on westbound I-470 and the move to the I-70 portion that extends 3.3 miles from just west of Urish Road to Danbury Lane and also from just east of Carnahan Avenue to the Kansas Turnpike Authority east toll booth plaza. There will be no traffic impacts on I-470 during the winter shutdown between November 24, 2009, and March 28, 2010. Project work is scheduled to be completed by October 2010. (Rev. 11-24-09)
