PROJECT DETAILS Project Web Site US-24 Corridor Study Website Programmed for Fiscal Year 2008 Location U-24, Pottawatomie County, Northeast KS US-24 from the Pottawatomie/Riley County line eastward to about 2 miles east of Wamego. Work Type Preliminary Engineering Scope of Work Corridor Management Study to develop a master plan for the corridor. Project Length 16.4 Miles Project Description Pottawatomie County, Manhattan, St. George, Wamego and KDOT have partnered to develop a coordinated plan for the US-24 study area. The intent of this effort is: 1) To plan for adequate infrastructure to serve future development and 2) To keep US-24 and its associated transportation system operating safely and smoothly. The result of this study will be a Corridor Management Plan document and associated policies for the highway's traffic operations and adjacent land use. Project Purpose The purpose of this study is to develop a Corridor Management Plan to allow this segment of US-24 to grow in a structured manner by taking a comprehensive look at transportation issues, favorable land use configurations, local regulatory policies/ordinances, local infrastructure and general economic conditions within the study area. Project Need US-24 has experienced significant development through Pottawatomie County. This growth is already straining some of the available infrastructure for water, sewer, and storm drainage. It also may eventually lead to unsafe and inefficient traffic conditions. Area agencies have identified the need to coordinate with each other on this study in order to preserve the existing infrastructure and be well-positioned for future, sustainable growth.
